As well, if you want the latest version, GT5, you can leave it to download everything at once while GT6, after like version 1.07, you have to do 1-3 updates at a time to prevent installation failing. Also, GT6 runs terribly at 1080p compared to GT5 so I’d recommend forcing 720p (Changing PS3 display settings to only 720p) for GT6.
#1 I never played GT5, but was recently gifted a PS3. GT2 was my favorite game years and years ago, so I’m looking forward to playing GT5. Obviously since no dlc will work anymore I want to buy the edition that has the most content on the disc. Should I get XL or the acedemy edition? Both are similarly priced. Thank you in advance!
The 6th doesn't have that good of a "racing" or "competitive driving" aspect to it it's more fix your car to go faster from last to first if that makes sense. Pro's : More cars, it's different, graphics are about the same. Con's : A mini physics class. Very repetitive. I prefer 5.

I'd say it's worth it just to be able to play on the Top Gear Test Track. I still pop in GT5 just to race on that track occasionally. You will be able to play, but no online features are there. You'll get more than $5 worth of amusement out of it. Even after you beat it you can have fun building and tuning cars.
